Logan is a STAR!

September 9th, 2005

On a bright note - Landmark Films out of the UK filmed our Logan home coming. Logan is a Canadian Lynx we rescued/took in whatever you want to call it - from Oregon last year right after the hurricanes hit us. His story intrigued Landmark Films and they came and followed us about for a few days to film for their documentary. I know it was a huge documentary and we were a small segment of it - but nonetheless we were pretty excited about doing it for them. The crew was awesome and we had a good time with them. I received voice mail from the producer that the show finally aired last week in the UK on their Channel Five - so perhaps you saw us!

Here’s a photo of Logan:

Logan

Isn’t he gorgeous? He’s SO fluffy! :-)

We’re getting closer as time goes by. One day he will love me back I’m sure :-)

Summer and Romeo

September 9th, 2005

Well Summer and Romeo have sure settled in now. I think I am finally getting over my cold - so I will be able to record real soon. We’ve had so many interesting things going on with regard to the pet world these days, it should be fun.

Of course our hearts go out to the poor people and the animals that felt the wrath of hurricane Katrina. It’s absolutely horrible enough to go through a major hurricane (we went through 3 of them here last year) but I can’t fathom what it must be like to get completely flooded out as well. It’s so sad for the poor people, and it’s just as sad for the poor animals, be it the local wildlife as well as the pets and strays. Our hearts go out to everyone on the Gulf Coast of the USA.

We are now watching as Tropical Storm Ophelia gets closer to Florida - thank goodness for us it’s not expected to hit our area. We’re still overwhelmed ourselves from last year’s fury.

More Kitties, Not Again!

August 23rd, 2005

Yes it’s true. We were working relief veterinary work at a clinic and there was one kitty that everyone said was too mean to go near. He had a sign on his cage “Aggressive - Careful” - well I was like no way is this cat aggressive, unhappy about being stuck in this little cage maybe, but not aggressive. He started flirting with me - and over the month I decided I liked him back. I had promised him I would take him home, I am quite sure he didn’t believe me. Every chance he got he flirted with me inviting me over so he could purr and talk to me with meows.

Next we were presented with a kitty (funny they are both orange tabby kitties, one is longer hair with some white paws & on the face, the other basic orange tabby with a fluffy tail) who was biting it’s owner and just too mean to them for them to keep. All it took was one look at this animal to see it was a younging and just needed a different situation and death didn’t have to be the answer. No we can’t save them all, however the lucky few that cross our path and hit our hearts do get a chance. We had the owner sign over the kitty to us, with the understanding that it might wind up euthanized if it turned out to be truly just a psycho kitty. The job finished and we took the kitties home with us. Romeo is the first one’s name, Summer the second’s name. On the ride home Romeo talked all the way. This is over a 2 hour ride mind you - so there was a lot of meowing going on (he’s still talkative today). He was probably telling us all he’s endured in his previous home and expressing how truly excited he was that we really did take him home and didn’t lie to him.

We got home, turned them both loose (because they had been tested Felv/FIV negative at the clinic before we left and were otherwise healthy) in here with us.

I am happy to report that both kitties have settled in here very nicely. Both are gorgeous and grateful to be here. I’m not too sure Summer understood that he was truly headed for the Rainbow Bridge but Romeo surely knew he had been staying at that clinic for a month or two before we got there and was definitely on a time frame to make the journey to the Rainbow Bridge if someone hadn’t adopted him soon.

I think I have said this before - if kitties make you rich - then we’re millionaires :-)

That’s all for now…

Here are some pics of these guys.

Enjoy! :-)

He’s got a NAME!!

June 30th, 2005

Hi there all,

Well I finally named that kitty. It surely took the longest ever that I can recall to name a kitty. His name is… Zachary, Zach for short. He already answers to his name - what a smart kitty. I noticed something about him very quickly - he likes anything cushioned. He regularly lays on this plush mechanical foot massager my daughter got me for Christmas. I used to be able to rest my feet in it, I think it’s called “twinkle toes” - anyway - he has decided this is an awesome place to take naps. I’m wondering if I have stinky feet or he likes the cushion - don’t ask Doc! :-)

It’s been raining here like mad lately, just as long as the hurricanes stay away we’re ok with it. Actually not, I sort of hate the rain and so do the animals, bout the only thing that enjoys it here are the trees and grass, oh yeah the duck - he likes the rain too.

Apparently we share a holiday weekend with our Canadian neighbors, I spoke to someone from Ontario today and was surprised to learn this fact after all these years :-) Everyone here is gearing towards the upcoming 4th of July holiday weekend - not truly sure how that will work - I guess it will be a 3 day event :-)

Be safe - be well - watch your animals over the holiday as they might get scared from the loud noises of the fireworks.

Take care,
Robin

More Kitties, oh NO!!!

June 16th, 2005

Well we’re doing some new vet work at a clinic about 2.5 hrs away from home and yesterday they had 2 new full grown cats dumped at their door when they opened. These two are full grown, obviously housemates, spayed/neutered ready to go kitties. One is a gorgeous grey long haired something. He may have Maine Coon or Norweigian Forest cat or something in him, he is a BIG boy, the other looks like a kitty we’ve had here once before and has long passed away, tabby with white in patches. Come to think of it the new kitty we rescued off the streets last week looks similar to that. We got around to testing him (for Felv/FIV) and he was negative for those nasty diseases (that’s a wonderful thing), so Doc went ahead and neutered him and gave him all his vaccines, dewormed him etc etc etc. Poor guy got poked to death today, but he’s doing well now. Anyway, back to the other two kitties - they are in need of a home - Doc looked at me today and said - when we go back - if you want to take them home - we can - how’s that for a wonderful husband? I don’t want it to seem that we collect kitties, really we don’t - we just do the best we can for as many as need us. There are so many poor kitties out there (and doggies) that need homes, we try to always adopt something that needs help - they are usually the best pets and the most happy when you do. They can be so grateful and just a shear joy to have. We’re blessed in that most all of our kitties have great personalities. Some are more timid than others, but as a whole we have a great bunch. It’s amazing how well they all get along too. If kitties are God’s blessings as someone said to me in email - then we are super duper rich :-) Heck I know we are. It’s a proven fact that people who share their lives with animals live longer, I’m sure they live happier too! Also I’ll add to that and say that animal loving people are just that, loving people! There are many people who would love to have an animal and for many of them they can’t due to various circumstances, we hope that in some small way we can share ours through our show, with them - it’s our pleasure to share.

Okay - now we have a real dilemma - if we take these other two kitties (and I have not checked if they were both boys or not) then we need three new names - YIKES. We have not even come up with one for the first new comer - though I was considering Zachery at one point today. I swear we really will need a name that kitty contest - oh wait - that’s it!! We can have a name that kitty contest and the prize is the kitty! ;-) (of course you know that is a joke, once I attach to a kitty they never leave!)

Name That Cat…

June 9th, 2005

Well we’re debating a name that cat contest - but wondering who would participate. Since Leroy is our darling and this little boy is a sweetheart too, and will likely be his best bud, then we were thinking of naming him a cute matching type name. I came up with Lester as a name so far… not sure I like it yet though, so haven’t called him by it yet, but when I said it out loud he purred. Maybe that is a sign he likes it… in the meantime if anyone has a better name please send it along. Maybe I’ll have Doc add a poll for everyone to vote with a choice of 3 or 4 names to pick from and we can have a name that cat contest… go to http://www.allcritters.com and vote today - this poor kitty needs a name before we neuter him ;-)

Look for our podcast to come out soon.

Here Kitty Kitty

June 6th, 2005

Well here we are driving home from a friend’s house - and at the very tail end of our 2.5 hr drive we see a kitty dart across the highway - of course I had Doc turn around so we could attempt to catch him to bring him home. My rule of thumb is if they can be gotten into the car then they deserve to go home with us, because they are sweet and trusting. Well this rule of thumb has stood it’s test of time around here - so why change it now ;-)

We got fairly close with the car and he really didn’t scoot off as far as he could have. Instead he ran a bit from me but always talked to me. As I am sure you know cats do not meow to each other - in fact they only vocalize with meows to humans. Therefore I knew he was definitely talking to me. I know he was complaining about how hungry he was and how scared he was to be out there on the streets all alone. Well he’s safe here with us now. We have not done much more than to isolate him in a kennel and feed him. I noticed when I was carrying him to the car that he was fairly young (maybe a year or so old), pretty skinny and had a kink in his tail that appeared to be a previous break and natural healing, at least I think that’s what it is. Tomorrow or the next day I am sure Doc will knock him down and fix him up, he definitely requires a neuter. I have not even thought of a name yet, but so far he seems happy, content and sweeter than sugar. I am sure he will make a wonderful loving pet. I know he will be well cared for here too.

Anyway - just thought I’d share. I usually wind up with kitties when I least expect them. I cherish them all, it’s our joy to help them out, we love sharing our home & our life with them.

Later,
Robin
