The Gadget Show #33
The Gadget Show #033 (MP3 – 10.7MB – 31min 00sec)
Today’s show is a rant about several cool technologies that we should all use, and one in particular that we should all manage better.
I rant about why I think Digg is like those annoying trivial emails people always send each other, why I’m migrating from Safari to , my del.icio.us bookmarks, and why RocketBoom misinterpreted my Wired Technology Barometer.
Heres my list of improving email management:
1. Buy Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen, and follow its principles for managing an inbox, i.e.: don’t use your inbox as a reminder, clear it as often as possible. Listen to The Gadget Show interview with David Allen.
2. Set aside time each day to manage your email inbox.
3. Increase the amount of time between auto-checking email.
4. Get yourself a quality spam filter.
5. Create some auto-filters for regular but unimportant emails, and have them allocated to a separate folder.
6. If you think you’re going to be busy, set up an auto-responder saying you might not be able to get to an email quickly.
7. Don’t publish your email address if you don’t intend to use it. e.g.: Neal Stephenson and Max Barry.
8. Possibly create separate private and business email accounts.
9. Gmail is a great storage device, if your concerned about losing email when you delete everything from your inbox.

Please turn off the annoying drums and music while you are talking. Trying to listen to you talk over the trobbing background gives me a splitting headache. Music XOR Voice, please.
