Its The Jazz Show…episode 1

Hi - I’m Dubber. Welcome to the first Jazz Show on The Podcast Network. You’re going to hear a pretty diverse bunch of podsafe music here - all of it available online - everything from the very first recordings made to something that’s fresh into the clubs this week.

My definition of jazz is pretty broad. Broader than most people’s. I have this idea that there are no bad ‘types’ of music - but there are a lot of bad examples of every type. The point of this show is to find the good bits and save you the filtering process.

From week to week, the show will change depending on what I happen to find - or just what kind of mood I’m in. This week, I wanted something with a bit of fire to it. Next week, I might feel like dancing. We’ll see (actually… now I think about it - best you don’t see that…).

If you want to send feedback on the show, drop me a note: dubber@gmail.com and for more from me, visit my blog: The Wireless.

Anyway - thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy the show - and here’s where you’ll find more about the music I’ll be playing.

And it’s a damn fine show as well! Looks like Radio 2 jsut got kicked off my schedule. And congrats to Dubber for not going all “Fast Show” on us in the links. There’s a moment where I thought that a singe “nice” was going to sneak in…

Great show! You had me dancing on my desk here at work with the second selection; thank goodness it’s generally a holiday here in the US today and most folks were out of the office….nobody saw me. ;)

Looking forward to more from the ‘Kiwi King of Jazz’!

Dubber, outstanding, outstanding. I am a HUGE jazz buff and your show is just great and so surprising to hear on a podcast. I just gave your show a plug on the first Tablet PC Show right here on TPN. Great work! It never ceases to amaze me to hear the Salsa Latin influence that so often creeps into excellent jazz.

Great show - could be the start of something big!

Hey - thanks for the kind words. I’d love some feedback on show duration. 40 mins seems to be a typical commute and a manageable download size - but I could fit more music into an hour programme…

I’ve been preparing next week’s show, and there’s some great stuff lined up. Nice to have you along.

    Cheers,

    Dubber

Thx Dubber. Where else would you hear someone like Rupert. I Wouldn’t buy an album of it, but certainly interesting. keep up the great work

  9. Adam Says:

    Great music and presentation!

As for the duration: keep the quality first. If you have great material for 60 minutes - go ahead - if not, don’t feel compelled to fill it with second tier stuff just to get to any prescribed show length. Flexibility is one of the advantages of podcast.

It’s great! I really like your music selection. Now I’m writing a midterm paper, listening to the show… half dancing. I’m gonna subscribe this jazz log. But not sure about podcasting yet. I downloaded just now . I will try to figure out how to get automatic downloading of this show!

I really appreciate this avenue of hearing new great Jazz.

All the above comments are ‘nice’. That’s great but some ‘constructive’ is required also.

I was very taken by the “The Walsall Jazz Orchestra” track but dissappointed that the flugle horn is out of tune (sharp) in the 2 quiet bits (near beginning & end).
Also, the really obvious sax squawk at 5m28s spoils it.

Rufus Harley is good for a laugh.

Rodrigo y Gabriela is fantatic - such power - I love his “Take5″.

    Regards, MH

Cool show and podcast. I liked the nice mix of various forms of Jazz. I like most Jazz, fusion, free, acid, swing, smooth, vocal, etc.. depending on the mood and the tune. keep the shows coming :)
