Well I know it’s been a while between drinks folks, but these damn VC are a shady bunch, what can I tell ya. They were all so scared off by my hard-hitting interview chops in the first show, that I haven’t been able to nail-gun their asses to seats in recent months.
Jason Ball, though, is made of harder stuff than his contemporaries.
Jason works in London for an Angel and Seed investment co-op and shares with us his insights on how to get your friendly Angel or VC to drop some green on your plate.
Here are a couple of books he recommends entrepreneurs should read before they start pitching to investors:
yeah my bad… it’s not through lack of trying. I’ve just found these VC guys harder to nail for interviews than I originally thought! I’ve invited quite a few but havent been able to get many responses! But… I’ll keep trying! So just subscribe to the RSS feed and I’ll get a show ASAP!
From Corante:
Matt Marshall and John Boudreau of the San Jose Mercury News point out that New York VC Fred Wilson is experimenting with podcasts as a way of reaching out to fledgling entrepreneurs:
“He’s soliciting entrepreneurs to send him their company pitches on a recorded audio file, which he downloads for later listening on a bike ride. There’s minimal hassle: Entrepreneurs simply tag their audio files at http://del.icio.us with an identifier that Wilson subscribes to, via RSS.”
Sounds like a pretty cool idea — and a great way to level the playing field in the clubby world of venture capital. The days of the 30-second elevator pitch are over: say hello to the brave new world of the 3-minute VC podcast.
By the way, there are more VC shows coming - soon!

Back in February, right around the time of DEMO, I had this great idea to start a podcast where I chat with venture capitalists. I did a couple of shows but then one thing lead to another (eg we launched a pre-emptive strike on the world’s media industry) and we got bogged down in other shows… so this site never went up. But good things come to those who wait (and hassle… thanks Molly!).
This first show is with Dr Sandy McKinnon from Pentech Ventures in Scotland. We had a great chat about how Pentech approach investing in software companies, some of their successes, like Sonaptic, and a simple guide for what you, as an entrepreneur, should do before you approach an early stage investor such as Pentech. It was a great chat and I’d like to thank Sandy for being bold enough to jump in first!
